ACTIVITY ONE:
  1. Go to the food calculator link: (http://www.waterfootprint.org/?page=cal/WaterFootprintCalculator )
(Note: You can access all links through my wikipage (**www.andrewsgeography.wikispaces.com**) under “Water Stress Activity” )
  1. Choose the United States as your country.
  2. Enter in all of your information into the calculator. (It says kg per week! Please remember that 1kg = 2.2 lbs.)
  3. On your own piece of notebook paper, record your “water footprint.”
  4. Do the exact same process except choose a country from each region in Europe (North, West, and East) and Russia.
  5. Record your “water footprint” for each of those countries.
  6. Answer these questions on your paper: Why might the results be different for each country? Which country has the greater water footprint for your usage? Did that surprise you? Why or why not?
  7. Look on the side bar of the water footprint website. Choose “Product Water Footprints” and select each of the items and read about them. How often do you use each of these items? Do the math! Determine how many liters of water you consume per week based on your consumption.
For example: Mr. Moore drinks three cups of tea a day. Each cup requires 35 liters of water (on average) to make (according to the website).
3 x 35 liters = 105 liters of water a day, 105 x 7 days a week = 735 liters per week!
8. Can you think of any ways you can reduce your own water footprint?
ACTIVITY TWO:
  1. Go to the following links:
http://www.data360.org/dsg.aspx?Data_Set_Group_Id=757
http://www.data360.org/pub_dp_report.aspx?Data_Plot_Id=346
2. On your own paper, describe the comparison chart you see. Which countries have the highest water usage per person
3. Research that country’s average water usage on www.waterfootprint.org.
Use this link: http://www.waterfootprint.org/?page=cal/waterfootprintcalculator_nationa

4. Pick three countries from the Middle East (you can use the countries you used in Activity One) and determine their “water footprint.
5. Does what you see explain the decreasing supply of water in the Middle East? Explain.
6. Do an online search of these countries to determine whether they experience water stress. What did you find?
7. Does the United States experience water stress? If so, which areas?
